The first thing you need to do before you start looking at houses is get pre-qualified for your financing. The reason you need to do this step first is because you will need a copy of this letter of pre-qualification when you bid on a house. HUD requires the original letter, with the original signature from the lender. Even if you submit a bid on a non-foreclosure home, most sellers will want to see this letter before they accept your offer.

What often happens is buyers will find a HUD home they want to bid on and it is Saturday or Sunday. Lenders usually aren't open on weekends. So, to avoid this problem, get your letter or pre-qualification early. Simply jump to this page to get started: Get Pre-Qualified.
